Description

A pair of French Art Deco bookends c1930. The bookends feature light beige marble bases mounted with finely defined models of pairs of doves or lovebirds. The pairs of doves are made in spelter, a metal alloy favoured by continental sculpture as more flexible and economical than bronze. Each pair of doves features a male and female, as their tail feathers differ, perching on a leafy branch. They have a bronzed finish, with light gilding. They are an interesting subject (makes a change from dogs) and are in excellent condition.
