Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Nouveau sculpture is characterised by sinuous, organic forms, flowing drapery, and motifs inspired by nature and the female form. Originating in the late nineteenth century, sculptors favoured dynamic, asymmetrical compositions that emphasised movement and decorative line over rigid classical realism.

Spelter, known in France as regule, is a white metal alloy composed primarily of zinc. It was cast in detailed moulds and coated with chemical patinas to simulate dark bronze, then mounted onto heavy stone bases such as alabaster, onyx, or marble.

Authentic period spelter pieces are lighter in weight than solid bronze and display a white or grey metal colour where the surface patina has worn down. Original castings typically feature crisp detailing in the hair and costume, soft seam lines from piece-moulding, and traditional threaded rod mountings beneath the stone base.

An antique metal bust serves as a focal accent on a living room mantelpiece, console table, or within an open bookcase. Pairing tactile patinated metal and cold natural stone against contemporary flat surfaces creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern minimalism.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a natural bristle brush to clear crevices. Avoid water, liquid polishes, or harsh solvents, as these can strip the applied patination on the spelter or stain the porous onyx base.
