Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Early Victorian bedsteads typically combine cast iron structural components with decorative wrought iron work and cast brass accents. Emerging in the mid-nineteenth century, these frames often feature intricate scrollwork, turned corner posts, and painted ceramic or enamel decorative plaques.

These beds were constructed using a mixture of cast iron for corner joints and decorative motifs, wrought iron for structural bars and lattice designs, and spun or solid brass for top finials and caps. Central plaques were often created using hand-painted porcelain or enamel set into cast frames.

Authentic nineteenth-century iron beds feature heavy cast metal joints known as dovetail or drop-in fitments where the side rails join the headboard and footboard. Original frames also display hand-finished casting seams, solid brass finials rather than hollow modern plating, and substantial overall weight.

A black iron bedstead functions as a strong architectural focal point when set against neutral plaster or dark moody wall colours. Layering crisp white linen bedding alongside textured woolen throws balances the crisp metal structure with soft tactile materials.

Dust the iron framework regularly using a soft dry cloth or vacuum brush attachment. Metal finishes should be kept dry to prevent oxidisation, whilst brass finials can be cleaned with specialist brass polish applied carefully to avoid touching adjacent painted elements.
