An Unusual Late Victorian Silver Neck Chain & Locket

Description

An unusual statement piece, dating from the late Victorian period. This chunky silver neck chain with large oval locket stands out from the crowd. The chain is formed of flattened rectangular loops, decorated with floral motifs in diamond shaped cartouches. Each loop is attached via ball fittings and a large ring. There is a sprung loaded clasp which secures the lockets bail to the chain. The oval locket has reeded bands and stylized engraved initials to the reverse. Hinged to the side, once open it reveals two apertures for photos of loved ones. Dimensions below.

Condition :- Excellent, with no dents or splits. The chain clasp is working and strong.

Hallmarks :- Unmarked. Tests as silver.

Date :- Circa 1890.

Depth :- 0.5 cms.
