? couple of Minton styled candlesticks, turquoise blue glaze with gilt trim, c.1850 Candlesticks modeled as cherubs supporting a candle cup in the form of vase, with hunting horns in their hands, overall turquoise glaze, picked out with gilt highlights throughout, mounted on a fluted column base with decoration derived from Greek and Roman architecture.
The representation of the cherubs is clearly inspired by the drawings of Franēois Boucher. Cherubs with vase at their feet (left) and a tambourine (right), both holding a hunting horns that leads up to a candle holder; on a gilt decorated porcelain cobalt blue base.
On the base there is marking used at the Sevres, but I''m guessing that''s not correct. I''m close to saying it''s Minton''s work.
Candlesticks have the distinctive dark Minton and Sevres blue color. An improved version of the original ‘bleu lapis’ ground color was introduced at Sčv...res: the ‘bleu nouveau’. The resulting deep royal blue was perfectly suitable to decorate the new pieces in neoclassical style in vogue during the 1850s. Excellent condition. No damage or repair. Minor loss of gilding consistent with age.
This artwork will take its rightful place in your collection
