Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Emerging in late seventeenth-century England, William and Mary furniture reflects Anglo-Dutch influences, characterised by intricate oyster veneering, geometric marquetry, lighter proportions, and turned bun feet.

Cabinetmakers employed cut slices of olivewood branches or walnut trunks to create oyster patterns, inlaid on pine or oak carcasses with hand-cut dovetail joints and cast brass hardware.

Authentic pieces feature transverse cross-grain timber cuts, thick oak drawer linings, hand-poured brass escutcheons, side-hung drawer runners, and natural unevenness in construction from period hand tools.

Set the patterned timber piece against a neutral wall in a hallway or living space, allowing the geometric grain to serve as a focal visual element among contemporary minimalist accents.

Maintain a consistent relative humidity to prevent veneer lifting or timber shrinkage, dust using a soft dry cloth, and apply natural beeswax sparingly to protect the patinated surface.
