Antique Gilt Bronze Regency Chain Fusee Barrauds Cornhill London 958

19th century
Description

Antique Gilt Bronze Regency Chain Fusee Barrauds Cornhill London 958.

This stunning antique regency mantel clock has a gilt bronze case with a fantastic finish and colour. The top of the case features an urn with shaped mouldings followed by a leaf and flower relief to the front. The body of the case then has “torch” like columns to each edge which are then topped with a small bird with its wings spread. There are then further mounts to the centre of each side as well as a beautiful scrolling shaped panel beneath the dial featuring flowers and fruits. There is then another section featuring a lions paw to each corner as well as a further scrolling mount to the front, this time featuring a shell to the centre. This then all sits on a rectangular base which is finished by four beautiful shaped feet.

The dial is then enamel and in absolutely lovely condition. It is set out in black Roman numerals with a thin ring to the outside marking the minutes. The dial is then signed by the maker “Barraud’s Cornhill London” and is numbered “958”. Finally the dial is finished by two shaped hands and a shaped, gilt bronze surround.

The movement is then wound from the front and accessed from the back. It is a single chain fusee example of absolutely stunning quality. The clock ticks away as it should and comes complete with its regulating pendulum, winding key, and travel nut. A truly exceptional example.

“The Barrauds family were prolific Clock & Watchmakers, particularly specialising in Chronometers. Paul Philip Barraud was Master of Clockmakers Company in 1810 & 1811. He partnered Howells & Jamison in the late 18th century to make Mudges Timekeepers. He died in 1820 but his sons carried on the business and it later became known as Barraud & Lunds”

It measures approximately:

- 11” / 28cm Tall.

- 5.5” / 14cm Wide.

- 4.25” / 10.75cm Deep.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
