Rare Hydra Shape Ironstone Jug with Snake Handle, Early 19th Century

18th century
Description

This is a rare gilt ironstone jug in the Hydra Shape, finely hand decorated and made circa 1830.



The jug has an octagonal "Hydra shape", a wavy rim and a good snake loop handle.



The pitcher has dark cobalt blue ground which has been richly hand painted over-glaze with gold sprigs of foliage that is interspersed with hand enamelled flowers.

Weight 500 g



Condition - age-appropriate loss of gilding along the edges, minor abrasions at the bottom. Otherwise excellent antique condition.
