Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian hall chairs were non-upholstered seating pieces placed in entrance halls of nineteenth-century residences for waiting visitors. Typically crafted from durable woods like pitch pine, oak, or mahogany, they feature decorative carved or pierced back panels representing family crests or Gothic architectural details.

Pitch pine was favoured during the Victorian period for its dense grain, resinous durability, and distinct figure. Construction typically employed traditional mortise and tenon joinery, turned legs, solid timber seats, and carved or pierced back panels.

Authentic pieces feature signs of age including natural shrinkage around wood joints, hand-chiseled mortise cuts, original surface patina, and wear on the underside of the legs and feet. Brass plaques or maker stamps, when present, provide historical verification.

Position a pair of hall chairs symmetrically on either side of a console table in a foyer, or utilise a single chair as an accent piece in a quiet corner or landing space. The architectural silhouette of Gothic Revival carving adds visual texture against plain painted walls.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft, lint-free cloth and applying a clear beeswax paste annually. Avoid placing pitch pine near direct heat sources or in fluctuating humidity to prevent timber movement and splitting.
