Puckerings has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The letter pan is engraved with the current postal rates at the time, this allows us to date the scale fairly accurately as these rates were introduced in 1885 until 1897, making this a true Victorian pair.
A most unusual feature is that the weight pan has been engraved with the book rate, I have never seen this pan engraved with this before; "Book Post Up to 5 LBS / One Half Penny For Every Two Ounces".
Excellent condition, measuring 10 1/4" x 5 1/2" x 5 1/4" tall.
