Rare Georgian "Hydra" Jug, Ironstone Cobalt Blue, Serpent Handle, C. 1825

Description

Rare antique early ironstone jug in the "Hydra Shape" with a textured serpent handle.



Finely hand decorated, made in England, c. 1825.



The pitcher has an octagonal body, fluted rim and a snake loop handle.



Dark cobalt blue ground which has been richly hand-painted over-glaze with powder blue foliate sprigs and gold flowers.



Large gilded band along the rim.

Weight 703 g



Condition: Some scuffing to gilt on the outer rim appropriate to age; scuffing and minor scratches in some places.
