Description: – A very fine Berlin Porcelain cup & saucer exquisitely painted with Watteau scenes in puce camaieu. The rims are festooned with floral garlands.
Size & Weight: – The bell shaped cup is 7cm tall & 7cm across the rim and the deep saucer is 14cm across, the whole weighs 270g.
Condition: – The porcelain, is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines, losses or restoration to the porcelain or painted rims. The floral painting is in good order on the cup and the saucer. See images.
Photography: - Please look at the images as they show a true status of this delightful tea cup & saucer. There are some light reflections seen following the photography and are not discolourations to the glaze.
History & Marks:– Part of the marks on both pieces have been ground down and covered with a decorators wreath. Both the scene and border are known to have been produced by Berlin in the 18th century. Marks are often obliterated when the porcelain is decorated by hausemalers (blank porcelain purchased by private decorating studios from outside the factory), or for political /histoical reasons. The obliterated marks for 1849-70 period. Under strong light one could see the obliterated Pfenningmarke for1849-70
Declaration:– This is original Berlin porcelain from the time period described. The very fine decoration possibly by a hausemaler.
