Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A coopered planter is a wooden vessel constructed using traditional barrel-making techniques, where curved wooden staves are held together by metal bands. Popular during the Edwardian period, these items were created both for utilitarian use and as decorative interior plant stands.

These pieces were primarily crafted from durable hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or teak, held together with brass or copper metal hoops. The accompanying stands were typically turned or shaped from matching hardwood to support the weight of wet soil and foliage.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-fitted staves, period-correct metal banding with original rivets, and natural age patina on the timber and metalwork. Stamped maker marks, such as those from established makers like R.A. Lister & Co., are often located on the underside or inner rim.

A coopered planter functions well as a focal point in a hallway, conservatory, or living room corner. Using an internal plastic or zinc liner protects the timber while allowing modern potted plants, such as ferns or palms, to be displayed.

To prevent the wood staves from shrinking or drying out, keep the planter away from direct heat sources and radiator units. Clean the timber with a soft dry cloth and apply beeswax periodically, while ensuring standing water never touches the unlined interior wood.
