Antique Early Single 19thc Copper Gill Thistle Spirit Measure. Scottish C1820-40.

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Mark Seabrook Antiques

A rare little measure used in Scotland and known as a ''thistle'' measure, because of its bulbous shape....it would have been used for spirits in pubs and hotels...this one is a gill in size and what is very unusual about this one, is to find one made of copper , they are usually made of brass, so a real collectors piece....it is stamped gill on the underside of the rim and you can clearly see the attractive early feature of a segmented joint and the concave shape of the underneath , still showing the lathe ''chatter'' marks...which are always very desirable in a piece.

English. C1820-40.
