Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Dutch marquetry corner cupboard is a specialised piece of nineteenth-century furniture designed to fit into the angle of a room. It features decorative wood veneers arranged in intricate floral, urn, or scrolling motifs, typically combining a glazed upper display section with a solid lower storage cupboard.

These pieces were primarily constructed using walnut, mahogany, or oak frames, veneered with contrasting woods such as boxwood, fruitwood, sycamore, or holly to execute the detailed inlaid patterns. Original glass panes and hand-cast brass or iron escutcheons were standard hardware components.

Authentic period marquetry displays subtle irregularities from hand-cut veneers, natural timber shrinkage along joinery, and an uneven surface texture under close inspection. Look for hand-sawn backboards, traditional dovetail joinery, and natural oxidation on the interior cabinet woods.

Place the cupboard in an underutilised corner against a muted or deeply saturated wall to highlight the detailed wood tone contrasts. Balance the elaborate marquetry by styling the internal shelves with minimalist ceramics, glassware, or contemporary art objects.

Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent veneer lifting, cracking, and timber bleaching. Clean the surfaces gently with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax paste sparingly once or twice a year to protect the timber finish.
