An Important and impressive early 18th Century George II Irish Armchair of wonderful rich burnished colour and patina. Having superbly carved scallop Shell forming a crown to the centre of the top rail where it joins the splat.
The splat being interwoven in typical celtic manner with flowers, scrolls and scalloped edges. The excellently shaped extended arms with fine scrolls to the front sit above the rounded seat rails. Standing on the most fabulously carved cabriole legs with with interlaced acanthus leaf carved up from the knee onto the top of the leg. The feet are quite exceptional, with extremely bold and very well executed claw and ball feet.
A rare collectors piece of Irish Country House furniture in good solid original condition.
