A rare ivory ground, third quarter 19th century Afshar tribal rug from the Neiriz region of Kerman province, southern Persia. The overall design is that of the 'dragon & phoenix' in stylised form symbolising the fight between good and evil. Note the two stylized figures upper left and right in the ivory ground.

The rug pile is evenly-low with some isolated wear in places.

Size: 1.32m x 1.26m (4' 4" x 4' 2").
