Rare French Palais Royal Mother of Pearl Sewing Companion, Circa 1880

Description

This exquisite and rare 19th Century French *Palais Royal egg-shaped sewing etui is carved in iridescent mother of pearl with a gilt metal mount and legs. It opens to reveal the original blue velvet pad with paper loops and fitted with the complete and original set of miniature tools.

*Palais Royal is a term used to describe, not a single manufacturer, but to a name given to a small area around the Royal Palace that specialized in producing small elaborate works of art and gifts in the 18th and 19th centuries. Often they produced sewing tools and the etuis to hold them.
