Mytton Antiques - Jerrard Nares has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The shaped column inlaid with malachite, to follow the shape of the obelisk, and surrounding a likewise shaped thermometer plate, reading the temperature to the left of the plate, and temperature indication, i.e Frozen, Temperate, Summer Heat and Blood Heat. The obelisk resting on a square plinth, inlaid with marbles to form rising flowers and leaves. The plinth over a stepped base.
Date circa 1840.
