Ernest Higgins Rigg "Swaledale" Oil Painting

1900 - 1920
Description

Born in Bradford, Yorkshire in 1868, Rigg studied at Bradford College of Art then at the renowned Académie Julian in Paris. His attractive open air scenes were in the manner of French late nineteenth century painting. He exhibited at RA, RBA, Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and elsewhere, working in many parts of England. He was a prominent member of the Staithes Group and later lived for a time in Letchworth, Hertfordshire.

"Low Row, Swaledale" is a good large example. Showing a view close to where the artist lived in Swaledale, Yorkshire, this oil painting on canvas measures 20"x 30". It is unsigned and is framed in a gilt frame giving an overall size of 25"x 35".
