ANTIQUE #SA1064752

Carved Oak Griffin Pew End

£175    $219    €208
An intriguing carved oak griffin holding a snake in its mouth. The snake and the griffin''s eyes have inlaid metal, and the body of the snake has metal braiding. It appears to be a pew end or a corbel. The wood is of considerable age, but it is hard to date and I have been unable to find another similar example.

In excellent antique condition. The metal inlay is possibly a later addition. There are traces of old paint to one side of the carving.
