Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the mid-20th century, ceramic production flourished as manufacturers produced decorative earthenware and porcelain figurines for post-war homes. Exotic bird motifs, particularly cockatoos and parrots, became highly popular subject matters for table ornaments and mantel decorations.

Mid-century ceramic figurines were typically slip-cast in plaster moulds before undergoing an initial firing. Craftsmen then applied underglaze details or colourful liquid glazes by hand before a final high-temperature kiln firing, resulting in a smooth, high-gloss finish.

Authentic pieces generally feature incised or stamped makers marks on the unglazed base, age-appropriate wear to foot rims, and visible hand-painted glaze accents. The quality of the molding, weight, and presence of fine glaze crazing also assist in identifying mid-20th-century origins.

A pair of ceramic bird figurines can be styled as a symmetrical focal point on a sideboard, fireplace mantelpiece, or within a shelving display alongside framed artwork and books to introduce sculptural texture.

Glazed ceramic figurines should be dusted regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. If deeper cleaning is necessary, wipe carefully with a dampened cloth using mild soap and tepid water, avoiding harsh chemicals or submersion.
