Victorian Silver Trophy Cup

19th century
Description

A fine example of a large sterling silver trophy cup. It has a nicely engraved decorative border and stands on a round footed base. It is engraved for the "N.E.F.I.R.A. 1888-9 Match IX. 1st Prize Won By D.A.Laing Esq"

The cup is a good quality piece and is clearly hallmarked for Birmingham, 1878 and the makers Frederick Elkington. It weighs approximately 256g.

It is in good condition for its age. There are some light surface marks and a few small dinks (one particular small dent which I've photographed) and the top cup has a very slight lean where it must have taken a knock at some point but overall it displays well.

Height : 8" / 20cm

Width : 4" / 10cm

Base Diameter : 3 1/2" / 9cm
