Konya rugs originate from Central Anatolia, one of the oldest weaving centres in Turkey. Prayer rugs from this region traditionally feature a mihrab motif, representing the architectural niche in a mosque, designed to point towards Mecca during prayer.

These rugs were typically hand-knotted using locally sourced hand-spun wool for both the pile and the warp/weft foundation. The vibrant colours were achieved using natural plant, insect, and mineral dyes such as madder root for reds and weld for yellows.

Authentic period rugs exhibit natural dye abrash, which is a subtle, horizontal colour variation caused by different dye batches. Additional indicators include irregular knotting typical of handcrafting, localized pile wear, and natural wool warp fringe edges.
