The cameo depicts a bearded gentleman 'in profile' (side on) in exceptional detail and intricacy.
It is a true testament to the engraver's skill and the time that must have been spent carving such a cameo.
The brooch's minimalist gold border modestly supports the outline of the cameo whilst not detracting any attention from the centrepiece portrait.
The reverse side of the brooch has a pin which allows it to be worn as a brooch with shirts, jumpers, jackets or coats.
Overall a wonderful example of a finely engraved and detailed shell cameo brooch and a wonderful collectable piece of 19th-century antique jewellery, rich with history and style.

Condition: Great antique condition with no major issues/damage. Some very minor scratches to the orange areas of the cameo and to the reverse side commensurate with age. This is not visible from a normal viewing distance and is only mentioned for accuracy.
