Antique English Domed Coromandel Jewelry Box - Brass Bound C.1860

Description

150 years ago, this would have been the grandest of glove boxes, today highly prized as decorative desk or jewellery boxes.

Dating to around 1860, the domed casket is make from exotic and expensive Coromandel and decorated with top-notch pierced or reticulated brass mounts engraved for further detail; the box topped with the most splendid folding carry handle.

Once opened, an Ivory plaque is evident, engraved with the London retailer, "Watson & Williams, 46 Cornhill, London", a sign of true quality.

The interior has been beautifully re-lined in a vibrant hand-marbled paper, creating a clean and very usable box.

Superb condition, measuring 10" x 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" tall.
