William Thomas Nicholson Boyce 1857-1911.Marine and landscape artist in oil and watercolour.Originally from Norfolk he moved to South Shields in 1872.He became an apprentice joiner and later worked in a drapers shop before becoming a full time artist. He worked far more often in watercolour and there are more examples of watercolour work than oil.Boyce exhibited at the South Shields Art Club,The Berwick Art Club Newcastle. and from 1905 until his death at South Shields the Artists of the Northern Counties exhibitions at the Laing Art Gallery Newcastle.Three pieces of his work were included in the ‘’ 1300th Festival -18 th Century Artists exhibition at the Sunderland Art Gallery in 1974.
