Description

Konstantin STOITZNER: an amusing and well-painted OIL ON CANVAS, “A Little Tipple” ~ which depicts a jovial fellow enjoying a glass of wine in his study. He wears a long frockcoat, typical of the time, whilst a partly-read newspaper lies on the dresser beside him. Signed lower left corner. 24 x 16ins (61 x 40cms) including the frame. circa 1890-1900.

Konstantin STOITZNER (1863-1934) was the son of Austrian botanist and teacher, Karl Stoitzner. He painted genre scenes and portraits; after 1900 he devoted himself mainly to landscapes, inspired by the Alps. From 1914-1923 he was Chairman of the Austrian Association of Artists. (** NB: he signed himself: “C. Stoitzner”)
