A PAIR OF LACQUERED 19TH CENTURY ARITA PORCELAIN VASES ( FOR LAMPING) MEIJI PERIOD.
A fine, large and impressive pair of Arita porcelain flared-neck vases enamelled and decorated with red, black and gold lacquer.
Japan Meiji period (1868-1912)
One side features a large cartouche with a red and gold background and is decorated with birds in cherry blossoms. The other side has a cartouche with a black and gold background decorated in a rocky landscape. The rest of the plain surfaces are decorated with fine geometric patterns in gold in polylobed cartridges.
Each vase has minor damage to the neck which has been stapled in antiquity and is not visible when they have shaeds.
These vases have previously been lamped.
Measuring: 54cm high and 15cm across the base.
