Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating during the reign of King George II (17271760), the lowboy was designed primarily as a dressing table or small side table. Characterised by cabriole legs, pad feet, and a configured drawer layout, it represents a transition toward refined English furniture design.

18th-century English lowboys were predominantly crafted using native and imported hardwoods, including walnut, fruitwood, and oak. Secondary timbers such as pine or oak were typically used for drawer linings, complemented by cast brass drop handles.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed secondary woods, original brass drop handles, and period-correct wear pattern on the legs and drawer runners. Cabriole legs ending in pad or webbed feet are also characteristic of the era.

A lowboy functions effectively as a hallway console, a side table in a living area, or a vanity table in a bedroom. Its warm timber tones contrast effectively with neutral wall palettes, modern art, or subtle brass lighting.

Preserve the natural timber surface by applying a high-grade beeswax polish twice yearly along the grain. Keep the item away from direct sources of heat, radiators, and prolonged exposure to sunlight to avoid shrinking or timber movement.
