Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A parcel gilt mirror combines natural wood surfaces, such as walnut or mahogany, with selective gilded areas highlighting carved mouldings, crests, and decorative drops. Popular in the Queen Anne and Georgian eras, these mirrors feature architectural pediments and carved detailing.

These mirrors were constructed using a softwood core, often pine or fir, layered with figured wood veneers like burr walnut. The decorative elements were hand-carved in wood or gesso and covered in real gold leaf, housing hand-blown mercury glass plates.

Authentic pieces feature hand-sawn backboards secured with old nails, visible joinery marks, and natural age-related craquelure on the gesso layer beneath the gilding. The mirror glass may show dark spots or silvering breakdown typical of historical mercury silvering processes.

Hang the mirror centrally above a sideboard, fireplace mantel, or console table to establish a balanced focal point. The contrast between warm timber and gold foil complements both neutral classical wall tones and contemporary dark paint schemes.

Dust the frame lightly using a soft, dry camel-hair brush to prevent damaging delicate gold leaf. Avoid liquid cleaners, polish, or water on gilded areas, and keep humidity levels stable to prevent veneer lifted from the core timber.
