Matching Pair 18th-century Flemish Genre Interior Oil On Zinc Portrait Paintings

£550    $725    €654
MATCHING PAIR 18th-CENTURY FLEMISH GENRE INTERIOR OIL ON ZINC PORTRAIT PAINTINGS

Brief Description:

This is a fabulous quality and very interesting matched pair of 18th-century Flemish Oil on Zinc Panel Paintings depicting wonderful period Genre interior scenes.

Painting 1 portrays a dapperly-dressed Gentleman who is holding a glass of claret in one hand.

Beside him sits a friendly-looking Lady, probably his maid, who is feeding a brightly-coloured exotic parrot with what appears to be a piece of bread.

In the room surrounding them are very fine furnishings, suggesting that the Gent is a high-society individual.

It is an utterly charming, all-original painting that is mounted within its original giltwood and gesso scrolled frame.

Painting 2 portrays a further interior scene with what looks like a group of peasants, surrounded by a humbly furnished room.

The housemaid is pointing to a document with a gentleman standing beside her.

Could this document be a work contract that she is just about to sign, or is it maybe a rental contract?

The second piece is also untouched and original, and it is mounted within its original giltwood and gesso scrolled frame.

They are an intriguing pair of paintings that appear to portray different classes of Flemish society during the 17th/18th Centuries.
