Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A half tester bed features a canopy extending over the head of the bed rather than covering the entire length. Popular during the 19th century, this design allowed drapery to be hung for warmth and privacy while maintaining an open footboard.

Victorian bedsteads were primarily constructed using cast and wrought iron components assembled with cast joints. Accents often included cast brass finials, decorative mounts, and painted enamel finishes over the metal frame.

Authentic pieces feature cast iron corner joints known as dovetail or chime joints, hand-formed wrought iron scrollwork, and porcelain or brass castors. Look for cast foundry marks or manufacturer badges near the side rail attachments.

Pair the iron frame with neutral linen bedding to highlight the decorative scrollwork without overwhelming the space. Drapery can be suspended from the upper canopy frame or left unadorned for a minimalist silhouette.

Dust the frame regularly using a soft microfibre cloth or vacuum brush attachment. Protect painted and lacquered metal surfaces from high humidity to prevent rust formation, and avoid abrasive chemical cleaners.
