Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A lowboy is a small chest of drawers or dressing table created during the eighteenth century, supported on elevated legs such as cabriole or turned styles. Originating in the Georgian era, it typically features a row of shallow drawers and was widely used in bedrooms and parlours.

Georgian lowboys were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or walnut, often featuring secondary timbers such as oak or pine for interior drawer linings. Hardware typically consisted of cast brass swan-neck handles and decorative escutcheons.

Authentic period lowboys display hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-sawn timber marks on structural backs and bases, and natural wood shrinkage around the top or drawer frames. The brass hardware should exhibit age-appropriate patination and irregular threaded posts.

A lowboy functions effectively as an accent table in an entryway, a compact writing desk, or a bedroom dressing table. Pairing it with a modern wall mirror or minimalist table lamp creates a balanced dialogue between historic woodwork and contemporary design.

Dust the surface regularly using a soft, dry lint-free cloth, and apply a light coating of natural beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, radiators, and strong moisture sources to prevent timber shrinkage or veneer lifting.
