A fabulous antique Afshar rug, handwoven circa 1900. The rug features an all over repeating shield design on an unusual ivory field surrounded by a deep indigo border. Finely woven with soft, velvety wool and outstanding secondary colours, especially the soft green and gold in the main design. Note the small figures on either edge of the field. A great example of tribal weaving.
Size: 1.85m x 1.48m (6ft 1in x 4ft 10in)
This rug is in good condition with light, age related wear, very slightly heavier on the main field (see photos). Fringes and selvedges are secure and it has been professionally cleaned.
