Gillers Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The edges of the lid are trimmed with a meander Greek key design in Neoclassical style; the two corners of the lid are engraved with scrolls. There is a vacant cartouche to centre for personalised engraving that is surrounded with wriggle work scrolls.

The lid opens with a push button catch to reveal dark blue velvet lining. Underneath the lining there is a lion passant 2 mark for 833 silver.

Excellent antique condition, the clasp is secure. Two tiny dings; wear to the velvet lining appropriate to age and use.
