Gillers Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
It is based on an original oil painting by German artist Wilhelm Menzler (1846 - 1926), titled "Young Woman in Renaissance Costume" from 1879. The portrayal is distinguished by its splendid coloration and meticulous attention to detail.

Several German porcelain manufacturers, such as Dresden, KPM, and Berlin makers, reproduced this same portrait plaque. While the plaque lacks a visible maker's mark, it bears an indentation of "160" and some old labels on the reverse side.
