Antique Pirot / Sarkoy kilim of traditional fine banded design. A kilim of large room size.
 
Circa 1920.
 
Pirot kilims are also known as Sarkoy or Sharkoy, they originate from the town of Pirot in south-eastern Serbia; where they have been made since the middle ages. The popular design style has spread across the Balkan region and into western Turkey. These are outstanding furnishing kilims with a very unique style in a wide range of designs and colours.
 
This example is of fine banded design with a small repeat medallion in reds and pastel colours, with a traditional ivory border. The weave is typically fine and tight.
 
Very good condition with slight wear. Suitable for normal domestic use.
 
Hand washed and ready for use.
