A Magnificent Antique Georgian Solid Silver Salver With Rococo Vine And Figural Mask Decorations - London 1742

£3,500    $4,678    €4,101
We are delighted to offer this magnificent Georgian solid silver salver/tray in Rococo (Rocaille) design, made in London 1742 with the marks of George Wickes - a leading 18th c. London silversmith whose successful firm would later become known as the renowned Garrard & Co. (Royal Court Supplier).

This salver is exemplary and presents preeminent British Rococo artistry in fine silverware.

The vine leaves intricately pierced, asymmetric and fluid in design capture the essence of Rococo design and philosophy splendidly whilst also conveying the level of craftsmanship involved.

As a further testament to its quality, the border curves and contours around the salver''s edge with an almost ribbon-like effect, accentuating each ornamentation as if to invite the onlooker to admire the piece from all manner of angles.

The bacchanalia theme is carried across to even its feet which support the tray with four vine leaf clusters; a minute yet demonstrative element of how much thought and no-costs-cut craftsmanship have gone into the making of this salver.

The face of the salver is left unembellished and made from a good gauge of heavy silver that can be fully appreciated upon holding. The centre has been hand engraved with a beautiful cartouche, crest and monogram.

The mirror-like surface is a tasteful contrast to the ornate Rococo border and acts as the perfect background to opulently highlight the objects placed on top whilst not being excessively ostentatious.

Owing to its practical size and versatile proportions, a plethora of uses even in the modern day can be thought of with a touch of creativity. Serving some hors d''oeuvres, desserts or to enjoy your espresso in the morning, this salver may jus...
