Antique Georgian Solid Sterling Silver Salver Pair in Neoclassical Design - London 1781

18th century
Description

We are delighted to offer this handsome pair of Georgian solid silver salvers/trays made in London, 1781 with the marks of Daniel Smith & Robert Sharp.

Understated elegance, subtlety and tasteful restraint - such descriptions may be appropriate for this pair of Neoclassical salvers which combine the perfect balance of practicality and intricacy.

The salver is crafted in an oval shape, supported by four neoclassical fluted feet. The edge is slightly raised and is decorated by a fine beaded border similar to designs that can be seen in Neoclassical archeticure of the period.

Such modest yet intricate details allow for the centre of the salver or the object that is placed upon it to capture the viewers' attention to the fullest. For instance, when not in use and solely for display, the two crests are truly accentuated and stands out to create a wonderful contrast to the plain surroundings.

Upon placing items on the salver, the mirror-like surface acts as the perfect background to opulently highlight the objects on top whilst not being excessively ostentatious.

Owing to its practical size and versatile oval proportions, a plethora of uses even in the modern day can be thought of with a touch of creativity. Why not enjoy a morning espresso, offer cigars in the evening for guests or perhaps use the pair for your personal jewellery display?

Acting as an accent of splendour on a table or on a sideboard, this pair immediately elevates the ambience of its setting and is surprisingly versatile whether be it in an antique setting or as a juxtaposing piece in a modern interior.

Overall, an excellent example of practical yet fine Georgian silverware, ideal for the discerning collector of fine antique objects.

Full English hallmarks are present on both salvers to the reverse side with matching marks.
