We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian flatware from the nineteenth century is characterised by elaborate decorative motifs, including scrolling foliage, shells, and repousse detailing. During this period, formal dining etiquette expanded dramatically, leading to the creation of highly specialised utensils for individual courses.

High-grade canteens were crafted from sterling silver, defined in the United Kingdom as 92.5 percent pure silver alloyed with copper for structural durability. Select pieces, such as mustard or salt spoons, often featured gilt bowls coated in a layer of gold to prevent corrosion from acidic food.

Authentic British sterling silver bears a full set of official hallmarks stamped into the metal. These include the lion passant for sterling purity, an assay office mark, a date letter, a makers mark, and often a monarchs head duty mark for pieces produced prior to 1890.

Antique silver flatware can be paired with minimalist contemporary porcelain and neutral linen tablecloths to create visual contrast. Displaying serving pieces on a sideboard or incorporating individual places into mixed-media tablescapes adds depth to contemporary entertaining.

Silver should be washed by hand in warm water with mild dish soap and dried immediately with a soft cloth to avoid water spots. Regular use prevents heavy tarnishing, but periodic cleaning with a dedicated non-abrasive silver polish will maintain lustre without removing decorative oxidation.
