Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cloisonne metalwork technique developed in the Middle East and was introduced to China during the Yuan Dynasty, reaching high levels of refinement in the Ming and Qing periods. Artisans soldered thin copper or brass wires onto a metal body to create outlined patterns, which were then filled with coloured enamel pastes and fired repeatedly.

Traditional cloisonne vases are constructed on a copper or brass base structure. The decorative lattice and outlines are formed using flattened metal wires, while the cell fillings consist of powdered glass vitreous enamel coloured with metallic oxides, finished with gilding on exposed metal edges.

Authentic handmade cloisonne features minute imperfections such as tiny surface air bubbles or pitting in the fired enamel glaze. Genuine antique or vintage pieces will show hand-bent wire borders with slight variations in width, along with natural oxidisation or wear to the gilded brass rims and interior bases.

Position cloisonne vases as accent pieces on a sideboard, console table, or mantelpiece to create visual contrast against contemporary backdrops. Pairing them alongside minimalist ceramics or modern framed artwork allows their detailed wirework and floral motifs to draw focus.

Clean cloisonne surface enamel with a soft dry or slightly dampened microfibre cloth to remove dust. Avoid using abrasive polish, harsh chemicals, or soaking in water, as moisture can enter fine micro-fractures in the enamel or corrode the underlying metal matrix.
