A Beautiful 19th Century French Walnut Bureau Plat or Writing Table.
This lovely writing table is veneered throughout in burr walnut of excellent figure and colour. Made in the Empire taste but dating from later in the 19th century this piece has an old leather top, possibly original, with tooled edge and some excellent ormolu mounts. These mounts include anthemion-flanked lock plates, female mask mounts to the tops of the legs and laurel wreaths to the sides of the frieze. The chasing of the mounts is particularly good and they retain their original gilding. The table has a pull out slide to one side.
Having an impressive combination of rich veneers and metal mounts and it is veneered and mounted on all sides, so can be used in the middle of a room. A very high quality writing table.
