This impressive bronze is finely detailed It portrays two working German shepherd dogs. The nearest is laid down and his companion is seated behind him. They both have an alert expression waiting for the command from their master. Louis Riche first exhibited at the salon in Paris in 1869 aged just 19. He specialised in numerous animals but was best known and highly regarded for his studies of German shepherd dogs. He was considered a master at reproducing their stance, expressions and fine detail. The majority of his work was cast at the Thiebault Freres foundry. This fine example was cast at the prestigious Paris Foundry Jollet et Cie and carries their additional medal on the reverse. This superb study retains most of its original high lustre gilt finish and is in excellent condition. Signed L Riche.
