Description

A 17th century carved pine and applied gesso figure of Christ. Large proportions, well carved and with the original piercing glass eyes. The piece originates from Spain and probably formed part of an alter piece as the back is carved and decorated. Face beard and hair are all well featured and carved. The hole to the top of the head would have had a gilt metal or brass halo.

There are large areas where the painted finish and gesso are worn, both arms are missing.

The piece has been fully treated for worm and stabilised. There are losses consummate with age.
