An outstanding wool & silk Isfahan carpet, hand woven circa 1920. The design features a single medallion on an ivory field of flowers and vines surrounded by an indigo border of large flower heads. Finely woven (8x8 knots per centimetre and a mind-blowing total of 5.2 million knots!) with velvety soft, kurk wool on a silk foundation and lots of silk highlights. Fabulous secondary colours and one of the best examples of this type that I have ever seen.
Size: 3.43m x 2.33m (11ft 3in x 7ft 8in)
This rug is in good condition with very light, age related wear, slightly heavier in a small section of the outer border (see photos). Fringes and selvedges are secure and it has been professionally cleaned.
