We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A classical plaster frieze is a decorative horizontal or vertical relief panel, historically crafted from gypsum plaster, depicting mythological, allegorical, or figurative subjects such as winged putti and cherubs popular during the 18th-century Neoclassical movement.

Craftsmen produced plaster casts by pouring a mixture of gypsum powder and water into carved moulds, often reinforcing larger pieces with animal hair, hessian canvas, or internal iron armature wire for added structural strength.

Authentic period plasterwork typically features subtle hand-carved finishing details, natural surface patination, minor edge chipping revealing chalky gypsum beneath, and embedded hand-forged iron hanging loops or fixings on the reverse.

Architectural plaster friezes can be mounted symmetrically above a console table, incorporated into a gallery wall, or positioned above doorways to add visual texture and Neoclassical proportion to contemporary interior spaces.

Plaster panels should be cleaned using a dry, soft-bristled artist brush or microfiber duster. Avoid water, damp cloths, and chemical cleaning solutions, as moisture can soften unsealed gypsum and degrade original painted or limewashed finishes.
