Pair of late C19th French Empire-style ormolu 3-branch wall-lights or appliqués, after a design by Claude Galle .
Stylish pair of gilt bronze wall-lights to a design conceived in 1806 by the celebrated French ‘bronzier’ Claude Galle who supplied this pattern of candle-light to the Palace of Fontainebleau for the Grand Reception Salon of The Secretary of State of France. The arrow back-plates with an intricate classically-inspired anthemion or palmette ‘flèche’ with a pointed arrow-head terminal to the base . Mounted with a circular medallion portraying a mask of the goddess Diana surrounded by a sun burst , with a further well-detailed cast lion’s head mask below with trumpets or hunting horns behind . The acanthus-wrapped cast cornucopia or horn-shaped triple light-branches with circular ‘drip-pans’ and cast nozzles .
In excellent original condition retaining their gilded surface and gently-aged patination . High quality wall-lights which have been previously wired . Could be re-wired or used as candlesticks .
