Lovely Japanese Meiji (early 20thc) Lacquer (maki-e) Box & Tray By Heian Zohiko

Superb Japanese Meiji (early 20thC) Heian Zohiko lacquer rectangular box (with silver rim) and tray with fine four seasons (flowers & grasses) decoration rendered in gold and silver hiramaki-e on the black roiro ground. The box has the Zohiko elephant-shaped seal on its base. The box measures box 17 x 9 x 4.5cm and the tray 34 x 16 x 2cm. Comes with original inscribed tomobako storage box.
