Youngs Antiques has dated this piece to the 17th Century.
The triple panelled fascade consists of heavy mouldings, which forms a frame around the decorative inlaid panels. Below is a later heavily moulded skirt ,above later bun feet. Originally the legs would have been straight stiles, unfortunately these have been lost long ago.

The chest has some old restorations/ alterations and does also show evidence of old wood worm holes which is very common, especially in walnut of this period.
Overall the coffer is in good condition, and has a fabulous colour and patina to the surface.
